How to get CPF - Full Guide

First of all, what is CPF and why should you apply for it?


CPF is the Brazilian individual taxpayer registry identification or so called tax ID.

You will need CPF to:


-Buy SIM cards

-Start a company

-Purchase real estate

-Purchase vehicles

-Open bank accounts

-Buy items online

-Use healthcare services

-Take part in education system


As you can see, obtaining your CPF is very important and you will require this document for most of the activities in Brazil.

I will now guide you step-by-step on how to do your CPF application:


  1. You will need to fill out a form to generate the CPF creation process before going to the Brazilian embassy/consulate in your country, click here to open the form website.

NOTE: This form can also be done in-person at the Brazilian embassy/consulate in your country on their computers.


2. You will receive CPF - Protocol de Atedimento on your e-mail.


NOTE: Protocol is valid for 90 days.


3. Now, you will need to visit Brazilian embassy/consulate in your country with the following documents:

-Passport

-Protocol de Atedimento (print it and bring it with you)

-Utility bill (to prove your residency)

-Birth certificate


4. You will be presented with a form to sign called RER by MRE (Ministry of foreign affairs), make sure to check all the data is correct and sign it.


5. Once done, all you need to do is wait for your CPF to be generated, embassy/consulate will email it to you in a PDF file.
