What is Carta Convite (Invitation Letter)?
Carta Convite is a formal invitation letter that is required in some countries for individuals who wish to visit friends or family. It is a document that the host writes to invite a guest to visit them. The letter typically includes information about the host, the purpose of the visit, the duration of the stay, and sometimes financial responsibility for the guest during their visit.
When do you need a Carta Convite?
You won't be needing Carta Convite if you will be staying in a hotel during your visit to Brazil, simply print on paper or save on your phone in PDF your booking with a hotel you're going to stay in and you can show that to the immigration control.
However, if you are going to stay in a private house, whether it's your boyfriend, girlfriend or your friend accepting you into their home, you will need Carta Convite, so keep reading this blog post if this is the case.
OBS: Return flight ticket will probably be asked of you, so it is suggested that you plan ahead and prepare it.
How to get yourself a Carta Convite?
1. Contact a Brazilian resident: Find a friend, family member, or acquaintance residing in Brazil who is willing to send you an invitation letter.
Obs: Carta Convite must be on the name of property owner where you will be staying.
2. Provide necessary information: Your Brazilian host will need your full name, passport details, dates of travel, and purpose of visit to include in the invitation letter.
3. Letter content: The invitation letter should include a welcoming note, details about your stay (duration, accommodation arrangements), and the host's contact information.
You can go to the notary and pay them to write one for you or you can make your own using a model from the internet, just make sure to include what I wrote above and not to forget Step 4. (Notarization).
Obs: Make sure to tell the host to be near the phone, it is very possible that the immigration control will call the host to check if the document is true.
4. Notarization: The invitation letter may need to be notarized by a Brazilian notary public to be considered valid.
Obs: I've paid for everything (with delivery to Europe) about 200 reais (cca. 32 Euros, cca. 36 USD, May 2024)
Remember to check the specific requirements and procedures with the Brazilian consulate or embassy in your area, as they may have specific guidelines for obtaining a "Carta Convite."
CONGRATULATIONS!
YOU NOW HAVE A CARTA CONVITE!
